What to Do in Tulum
Tulum Ruins
The Tulum Ruins are the only Mayan vestiges located by the sea, which already gives you an idea of the uniqueness of this place. Buildings like El Castillo are among the biggest highlights here, as it is the most famous and the tallest one. Right after visiting this ancestral Mayan city you’ll be able to swim in the beach located by these ruins and complete this magical experience.
Swim in the Cenotes
Tulum is famous for its cenotes, subaquatic caves where you can swim, dive and snorkel. The Gran Cenote and the Cenote Calavera (the latter with hammocks and swings) are among the favorite ones to swim and become one with the flora and fauna. Tulum has over 2500 cenotes, what are you waiting to explore them?
Tulum Beaches
The beaches in Tulum are exactly what you’ve envisioned: white-sand paradises with shallow, turquoise blue waters. The most beautiful ones are the Playa de las Ruinas, right next to the archaeological site, the Paraiso Beach, a favorite for being public and known for its twisted palm tree and Xpuha, a spectacular private beach located 35 minutes from Tulum.
Cobá
The Cobá Ruins are 47 km away from Tulum and their pyramid is the tallest in Yucatan, Mexico. It’s called the Nohoch Mui Pyramid, which is 138 feet tall, with 120 stone steps that will lead you to the most spectacular view of the surrounding jungle.
Sian Ka’an
It’s a natural reserve located 50 km from Tulum. It gathers archaeological ruins, mangroves and cenotes, creating an incredible experience for anyone that visits it. Because of the importance of its different ecosystems, its flora and fauna, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
